When setting up a solar power system, the battery choice significantly impacts performance, cost, and longevity. The two main options are lithium (LiFePO4) and lead-acid (tubular or AGM) batteries.
Lithium batteries have 3–5x longer lifespan (6000+ cycles vs 1200 cycles), can be discharged to 80% without damage, require zero maintenance, and have a smaller footprint. Lead-acid batteries have a lower upfront cost but need more frequent replacement.
For most Nigerian homes and businesses, lithium batteries are the smarter long-term investment. The higher upfront cost is recovered within 2–3 years through reduced replacement and maintenance costs.
